More and more people are starting to use CBD for pets. After all, our fur babies get older and eventually start needing some help to get through the day. Aching joints and other problems are not things you suffer gladly and neither do they.
But how to give them CBD? After all, it’s not as simple as giving them oil or a pill; animals don’t know to take CBD like humans do, so they aren’t likely to be cooperative. You must resort to some trickery to get them to take it.
Here are three common tricks for administering CBD to your pets.
The seemingly most obvious solution is to get CBD pet chews. They are one of the easiest methods to give your pets CBD to help them live their best life. Your dog or cat gets a tasty treat and the relief they need for their conditions.
If, that is, it’s to their liking.
Just like with trying to get kids to eat vegetables or fruit, the hitch is that not every individual finds the foods they need to eat are necessarily most pleasing to their palate. Some pets will take to CBD chews like a duck to water; others will turn up their nose at it.
It really is going to depend on your pet.
That being said, most are made with a savory flavor – such as peanut butter, bacon or chicken – that are appealing to animals. Remember, most common housepets (cats and dogs) are predators in the wild; savory flavors such as chicken will be more appealing to them.
Some people find dogs are more apt to eat pet chews than cats, some people find their cat likes them just fine.
Among the different CBD for pets products on the market, treats and chews are the one that’s a gamble. It’s great if they go for it, but given how much it depends on whether your pet likes them or not, it might not necessarily work out.
Another great solution when it comes to CBD for pets is using CBD oil by adding it to food or water. If you needed a failsafe option, this is it.
Using the appropriate amount of CBD oil and of the appropriate dosage, you can add it to dry food or wet food. Sprinkle it over and mix it up a bit. Wet food will be more subtle; the moisture of tinned meat and gravy won’t make it obvious that a wet ingredient has been added.
Or you can add it to your pets water dish. You may want to stir it so the oil isn’t floating on top of the water, but then again your pet might not notice the difference.
If joint pain or foot pain is the problem, another potential application when it comes to CBD for pets is to apply a CBD pet salve topically. Just like with people that have joint pain and problems, a topical application can also bring relief.
The idea is more or less the same as applying a CBD cream to your aching joints.
Apply the salve when your dog or cat is showing signs of an aching joint or foot as needed, or apply the salve a time or two per day on a schedule to keep them as pain free as possible as a maintenance regimen.
These are the easiest ways to administer pets for CBD without having to resort to trickery or holding their mouth open to give them oil, which may be uncomfortable for them, impractical or even impossible, depending on your pet and you.
So give them a try. You’ll probably find a way to get your pet the relief they need with CBD for pets.
