Technically, CBD oil for pets can be used for humans, but you wouldn’t want to because it is NOT going to taste good. At all.
The basic ingredients are the same, but the difference between CBD oil for pets and CBD oil that’s for people is principally the flavoring agents.
Granted, you might find yourself in a situation where you’re out of your CBD oil, but there’s some left of your pets’ CBD oil. The short version is that it’ll work, but it’s going to be incredibly nasty.
The first thing you need to know is that CBD oil for pets and CBD oil for people are basically the same.
The CBD is the same. The cannabidiol is the same extract that’s used in CBD oil that’s made for human consumption. It’s mixed with the same oil.
The CBD works in the exact same manner; it’s absorbed by the bloodstream and goes to the brain, where it acts on more or less the exact same receptions in the exact same manner and produces the same effects.
That’s why the CBD industry makes CBD for pets.
Bear in mind that before human studies are done, researchers do animal studies to see if a substance has a beneficial effect and is safe for use. That’s how it’s known that CBD oil is safe and effective for animals as well as for humans.
Ultimately, many CBD oils for pets are the same as the CBD oils for humans. The CBD extract is the same. The oil is the same. What, pray tell, is the difference?
The flavoring.
Some people find themselves in the situation where they run out of their CBD oil and contemplate using their CBD oil for pets, if they have furry companions.
Or it might be the case that a person thinks about getting one CBD oil for everyone in the household. After all, it would be pretty darn efficient if you think about it.
When it comes to efficacy, you won’t have a problem IF, that is, you’re taking the same dosage.
Many pet CBD oils are 500mg or lower. Some people use CBD oil of 1000mg concentration, and some people use 250mg oil and so on. Provided you’re taking the same amount of oil of the same strength, there won’t be a difference there since you aren’t taking a different amount.
What is going to be different?
CBD oil for pets is probably going to taste nasty.
Bear in mind that the most common house pets – meaning dogs and cats – are, by nature, predators. When they revert to a feral state, they predate. Mice, birds and other critters become prey.
As a result, they prefer more savory flavors as that will be more appealing to their palate. The artificial flavors or extracts of those foodstuffs may taste incredibly bad.
For instance, some CBD oil for pets is salmon flavor. Sure, a salmon filet on the grill is delicious, especially with some cajun seasoning, a bit of citrus, and so on…but essence of salmon is not a flavor you’re used to or likely interested in!
That’s why most CBD oil that’s intended for human consumption has a much more palatable flavoring like, say, mint. While some people don’t care for it, most people like the taste of mint.
A julep just wouldn’t be the same with cilantro, after all.
Other flavors are available of course, but mint is very, very common throughout the CBD industry and for good reason: most people like it!
So ultimately, there’s nothing WRONG with taking CBD oil for pets if you found yourself in a pinch, but you’re probably not going to like it. If you were to try to have “one CBD oil to rule them all,” you’d be best-served with unflavored CBD of the strength level that your pets need to take.
That way, neither party is made completely unhappy.
